Whole Wheat Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

by Heidi @ Food Doodles on August 16, 2011

When I first started my blog I was trying to post 6 times a week.  I eventually scaled back to 5 posts a week when the weekends were just too crazy.  Even that got tiring very fast, and I realized when I took my time the end product was better anyways so I slowed to 3 posts a week which has been just about perfect.

I am sad to say though that things will have to slow down a little more over the next couple months on Food Doodles.  I’m trying to do too many things at once and the blog as much as I love it, will always take a back seat to more important things.  I will try to keep up with my 3 days a week posting schedule, but I think I may even slow to 2 posts a week.  I hope in a couple months time I’ll be able to put more effort into my regular posts on Food Doodles.  I have no intention of stopping so I hope you’ll all stick around because when things pick up again, Food Doodles will be better than ever, I promise 😀

Despite the summer heat, I’ve been still baking when I get the chance.  Although, I’m hoping to save a couple more of my baking recipes for later and not post them all right away.  I wouldn’t want to overwhelm you all with baked goodies.  I’ve been in the mood for them lately but I completely understand that most people are still wanting cold and refreshing things as the heat hasn’t subsided, and probably wont for a while yet.

I’ve been searching for the perfect chocolate chip cookie recipe, using whole wheat flour and coconut oil.  But along the way I decided to try a recipe from Heidi from 101 Cookbooks.  Of course I’m never disappointed with her recipes and I’ll be keeping this recipe for special treats for a long time to come.  Definitely recommended!

Hey I love this recipe and just a couple of weeks ago I found a much healthier choice. It’s basically the same ingredients but less of them. I’ve done it too much in these past days. http://www.eatingwell.com/recipes/bevs_chocolate_chip_cookies.html

Those cookies look amazing. I need to try them! I have also been wanting to try palm sugar–do you like it?

I know what you mean about the blog needing to take a backseat sometimes. It’s a lot of hard work and it’s not easy to keep up! I’ll still be reading no matter how many times you post per week. 🙂

I totally understand what you mean… I also came down from posting everyday to 2 posts a week! But trust me it’s ok! Enjoy the break and you will love it when you don’t always have to worry about the next days blog post!

Love this recipe! I am going to try these for sure. I will try it with flax seeds instead of eggs and let you know what happens!

I can definitely relate! Life has gotten a lot busier for me lately as well! It’s been so hard to keep up with blog reading/commenting/posting! I’m still trying to figure out a good balance!

I have yet to have a recipe from Heidi let me down! She really knows her stuff! These cookies look fantastic! And as always…beautiful photography girl! I love your staging and use of props!

Heidi, I say you should post as often (or as little) as you want, and when you do, post with your heart! Don’t worry about what it is that we want to see right this instant, worry about what it is that YOU want to present to us. We might not feel like making whatever it is that you are posting about on this particular day, or even week, but if you are passionate about the stuff that you write, chances are, we will want to bookmark and use your recipes somewhere down the road.

For all I care, you could give me 12 oatmeal cookie recipes in a row, I would still read them all, make a mental note to hate you for making me crave oatmeal cookies again, and drool over all your pictures! 😉

Just promise that you won’t quit on us. Because THAT would be a shame!

Did I mention you got me craving oatmeal cookies again? 😀

Whole wheat? Does that mean I can feel less guilty about eating more of these? They look and sound so yummy! Thanks for sharing 🙂

I can certainly understand where you’re coming from. My blog is slowing down a bit now, too – but that’s okay as long as we’re still enjoying life, you know? I know in winter when it’s below freezing out, I’d rather be inside creating recipes and blogging than playing outside! haha.
These cookies look SO amazing, too 😉

I am already a huge fan of oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, and I think whole wheat flour must add an delicious flavor contrast.

I found it at my local health food store but you should be able to find it online as well. If not, you can use sucanat, or even regular brown sugar should work.

The slowing down, and then speeding up again, is a sign of the life’s perfect flow. As you can see from all the comments, every blogger there is, count me in too, has felt that way at some time, or the other. Take your time, rid yourself of any guilt, have a whole wheat oatmeal cookie for a treat and go on with your life. I’ll have that cookie, too. Hugs. Gosia
