So I mentioned last week that I’d pop in with a roundup of school ideas and here I am finally, with a ton of ideas for you. My little guy is going into grade one this year and last year leftovers were so handy for packing in his lunches. I love using a Thermos to keep food warm until lunch time so keep that in mind with the dishes that would be best served hot or warm. If I’m sending leftovers I almost always round out my sons lunch with a little bit of fruit and/or a healthy treat like you’ll find towards the end of the list. I also have some bread and crackers options further down the list as well.
So first off, some hot lunches that go great in a Thermos or that can be heated up at school if that’s an option:
And now some dishes that can be served cold(or warm if you’d prefer for some):
Greek Salad(plus a recipe in this post for spelt pita bread)
And now some Bread Options, both Sweet and Savory, Yeast or Quick Breads, all are great for packing in lunches:
Homemade 100% Whole Wheat GoldFish Crackers(and how to make your own Fish Cookie Cutter!)
Multigrain Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins(that can also be made with all whole wheat pastry flour or even all purpose flour if that’s what you use!)
Cosmic Cookies (Whole Grain, Vegan and Nut Free)
(Plus you can find a whole roundup of cookies here for all kinds of whole grain cookie options!)
Some other cold snack ideas:
Caramel “Pudding” Greek Yogurt(and 4 other yogurt ideas in this post)
Cinnamon Raisin Brown Rice Pudding(which can also be warmed and sent in a Thermos if your child prefers it that way!)
Chocolate Chia Seed Pudding Parfaits with fresh fruit(or just by itself!)
And of course I had to include a couple super healthy after school snacks that don’t travel so well but as great for when the kids come home from school 🙂
Happy Back to School!
