Fresh Food

by Heidi @ Food Doodles on

I’m sure you noticed the picture of my Farmers Market buys from this last weekend, and if you’ve read my blog for any amount of time you know that fresh foods are important to me.  Of course, all of the produce at our local Market is fresh, straight from the farm and every year we go to farms to pick local produce as well.  This year we’ve already been out to the farm to pick strawberries.  Not to mention all the picking we’ll be doing in our own garden pretty soon.  When I buy produce from the market it’s hard to keep everything perfectly fresh all week long though.  Buying beautiful produce is only a small part of it, storing it properly to last all week is the hard part!  It’s nice that we have two markets in a week during the summer months here, but fresh foods aren’t always that easy or convenient.

If you haven’t heard of it the GE Freshpedition is a short series of webisodes about 2 guys, a fridge in the back of a truck and 2000 miles.  Along the way they buy all kinds of fresh foods and put them in the fridge to take with them(and then cook a fantastic meal with their still very fresh foods at the end of it all!).  Being completely honest, I actually really enjoyed it, even though I have a serious case of fridge envy now!  You really should check it out, it’s amazing.  You can watch it(and check out some recipes and other things – I especially liked the “On The Road: Drive Through” segment near the end 🙂 ) by clicking the logo above, or just check out the trailer below:

I actually enjoyed the whole little series but I especially enjoyed episode 4. It’s kind of a sped up version of the places Ben and Justin stopped, showing all kinds of amazing produce(which you should know by now, is something close to my heart 🙂 ) local to the areas they traveled through which I always find interesting to see.  Of course I really enjoyed the ending, but you’ll have to watch that for yourself 🙂

Just out of curiosity… If you’ve watched any of them, did Ben remind you of Luke from Gilmore Girls?  Please tell me I’m not the only one.. Hehe…

GE is continuing this same passion for fresh food with the Freshpedition Sweepstakes. This sweepstakes uses Pinterest, which means you can actually pin for a chance to win all new GE kitchen appliances.

But wait, there’s even more to win!

You can also enter each day of the sweepstakes for a chance to win a $100 VISA® Prepaid Card. Entering for this prize is fun as you’re asked to pin your favorite fresh foods or your own recipes. Also, these pins when hashtagged with your state (e.g. #GEfreshTX) become part of a “Best of Fresh” map featuring freshness from around the country. Explore the map here: http://www.freshpedition.com/sweepstakes/fresh-map.htm
