Does it ever feel good to be back! I realize I’ve been gone quite a while. I got my wisdom teeth out last month and thought I’d take a week off, just reading blogs while eating mashed potatoes and ice cream and these mango lassi popsicles, in smoothie form(SO awesome with a generous chunk of fresh ginger!). Well it was so nice I took some more time off. And then a little more. It was lovely getting back to just cooking for necessity rather than forcing myself to be creative each and every day. But now that I’ve had that time off I feel like I’m bursting with creativity 🙂 I really can’t wait to get back to sharing my ideas with you!
While I was taking my little vacation from blogging, I actually missed my 2 year blogoversary 🙁 I started Food Doodles 2 years ago on the last day of February. I can hardly believe it’s been 2 years! My little girl who was only 1 at the time is now 3 and my baby girl is almost a year old(just one month to go!)
I’m so thankful that you all enjoy Food Doodles enough to show your support by subscribing in whatever way you do, or just by checking back regularly. I appreciate it so much. Thank you all!
So in the last couple weeks I’ve been dreaming up some wonderful, amazing treats to share with you, and nothing seemed good enough to be my first post after taking time off but here I am sharing a smoothie(especially when I’m saving some incredibly decadent chocolate hazelnut and date blondies for later in the week). I don’t understand it either.
But I did think this smoothie was well worth sharing. I don’t even remember where I saw the original idea to put cranberries in a smoothie. I remember liking the idea but then putting off trying it. If you’re anything like me, the idea of eating plain raw cranberries kind of makes you cringe. They don’t exactly make my mouth water. But put them in a smoothie like this and they are amazing! My son finished all of his smoothie so it must be good 🙂
Cranberries are so good for you it’s great to have another way to enjoy them, especially one that isn’t in baked goodies… Even though you know I love those 😀
So, about the smoothie… Yes, it’s sour. But not overly sour. I don’t even like sour candy but I loved this smoothie even though that’s what it reminded me of. So if you’re anything like my hubby and can’t get enough sour candy, maybe give this a try 🙂 With the sweet applesauce to balance out the cranberries and the yogurt, plus warming spices it is just perfect. Like I mentioned in the recipe though you can always add a little extra sweetness if you want it 🙂 I also think this would be amazing in a bowl with granola on top, like a breakfast apple cranberry crisp!
Again, I just wanted to say I’m so glad to be back to blogging. It was so nice to take a little break, but I can’t wait to spend more time creating in the kitchen again! And I have so much to catch up on with all my favorite blogs! What amazing things have been posted in the last month? Fill me in! Plus I got a new lens for my camera and Lightroom so I’ll have to spend some time figuring those out. Hopefully you’ll notice an improvement soon 😉

Found via pinterest and gave it a shot this morning and it was so tasty! I wouldn’t call it sour, but I think tart is a better word. A good kind of tart. 😉 I added spinach to get some of my daily greens in. It tasted just like Thanksgiving so it was a perfect way to prepare for tomorrows festivities! Maybe I’ll make it again for breakfast Thanksgiving morning! 🙂

Just found this recipe, and am very glad I did. I don’t normally buy cranberries, but I would for this smoothie. It sounds delicious. I would probably add half a scoop of vanilla protein powder (or perhaps unflavored) to increase the protein content to where I want it. The vanilla powder would also help to sweeten it. And happy, very belated blogoversary!

You finally for the lens! YAAAAY! I’m so happy for you! 🙂
And I’m happy you were able to take a break. It must have felt great! And happy super belated 2nd blogging anniversary! I really thought that you’d been around a lot longer than 2 years.
The smoothie looks great, too! I actually have leftover cranberries taking up room in my little freezer so I think I’ll try this out tomorrow. Maybe!

Welcome back- you have been missed! Aren’t breaks so good 🙂 good for you for taking one. You are going to love light room, once you play around with it and use it often there is so much it can do to take your photos from great to amazing!

Ooh, your description of your time off has ME wanting to take some time off too. Well, minus the wisdom teeth part. 🙂 Glad you’re back though–I missed your posts! And Happy Blogoversary!

Thanks Kiersten! It was nice, but I can’t believe how much I missed blogging! Oh, and you were right about the wisdom teeth – definitely not as bad as I thought they were going to be 🙂

Welcome back gorgeous!! It’s so good to have you back, but I TOTALLY understand the need for a break! Really, you couldn’t have said it better when you mentioned feeling the “forced” creativity every time you step into the kitchen…sometimes it’s nice just to get back to the basics! 🙂
This recipe sounds wonderful…and as always, I’m in LOVE with your photos! I love the tartness of fresh cranberries but never thought to drop them into a smoothie! And since I’m ALL about thick spoonable smoothies, the idea of topping it with some apple granola (which I just so happened to have made last week!) sounds perfect!
What kind of lens did you get? I’ve got a 55-200mm lens that came in a package deal that I got with my new Nikon around Christmas but I’ve YET to get it out and play with it! I’ve just been using the stock 18-55 lens because that’s what I had before! Lol
Again, so glad to have you back! And happy (belated) bloggy birthday! And happy (early) birthday to your little one! 😀

Thanks Heather! I was feeling really stressed out about everything blog related. We were so sick in January and February and I don’t know why I didn’t take a break then because I could hardly keep up and I think the quality of my content suffered too. So it was nice to just step back for a while and it was really nice to get back to basics 🙂
I got a 50mm 1.8f. I was using the stock lens that came with my camera too and I can’t believe the difference! It’s awesome! I definitely recommend the lens, especially for the price! It makes me wish I hadn’t stuck with the stock lens for so long. Haha. I think Lightroom is going to take me forever to figure out though. I bet your 55-200mm is going to be so nice! Just finding the time to play with it is the hard part, right? 🙂

Oh my goodness, SO true! But as soon as I’m feeling up to it (I just had knee surgery last week and unfortunately right now I have to rely on crutches…which I’ve been cursing on a pretty regular basis! Boo!), especially with the nice spring weather coming in, I’ll be heading outside for some playtime! 😀

This sounds delicious and looks amazing! The pics are so colorful and make me want to head straight to the store for applesauce and cranberries so I can try this. Happy Blogoversary! 🙂
