How to make the Best Iced Herbal and Green Tea

So if you read my last post, it was getting cooooooold here, and fast.  But now it seems like it’ll be warming up during the day for a little while longer.  Thank goodness 🙂  So it’s the perfect time for me to share this little how-to.  But then again when is iced tea wrong?  😉

So I’ve been perfecting this tea all summer, and it is perfect.  Not too sweet, just perfectly refreshing.  I hope you enjoy it!  We typically don’t drink anything other than water in our house except occasionally apple cider in the fall and hot tea in the winter.  I do occasionally make iced tea though and when you’re out in the heat mowing the grass(or just playing hard), you deserve a little.

So it may seem like a simple process to make iced tea, but there a few factors you need to keep in mind.  First, that you need more tea bags for the amount of water than if you were making hot tea.  In this case, I used some herbal tea and some green tea, but if you’d like to make yours all herbal, I’ve put a little note in the recipe so you can do that and I’ve also made a note if you’re using loose tea.  Now, when brewing green tea you need to be careful of the temperature and duration that you steep the tea bag otherwise the tea will turn out bitter.  I like to write and follow very exact recipes so that’s how I’ve written this one, but it really isn’t too hard to wing it.  Just do not use freshly boiled water with your green tea or you’ll have bitter tea that no sugar or honey can fix.

Our absolute favorite flavor for herbal iced tea is one called ginger peach.  It’s so delicious, and tastes like summer 🙂  But really, any variety you enjoy will be delicious!  I even made one with some blueberry tea.  Yum!

How to make the Best Iced Herbal and Green Tea

Ingredients
  • 4 herbal tea bags
  • 3 green tea bags
  • 3 tbsp lemon juice
  • ½ C sugar, or slightly less honey or a combo of the two
  • At least a 6 cup container for making and storing the tea in the fridge
Instructions
  1. In your container for making and storing the tea add 6 cups of boiling water or just add 6 cups of water to a pot on the stove and bring to a boil. Add the herbal tea bags and leave the water to cool while the herbal tea steeps. Once the water reaches 170-180 degrees F add the green tea bags and only let steep for 2 minutes.
  2. Once done, remove all the tea bags and stir in the lemon juice and sugar or honey. Place in the fridge until cold and then serve 🙂
Notes
For this tea I just used regular Nestle green tea bags, if you're using a different variety of green tea, adjust this recipe to brew your tea in the best way for the tea you have.
If you'd like to make this recipe with all herbal tea, just use 6 tea bags of your favorite variety.
If using loose leaf tea, simply double the amount of tea that you would use for hot tea.
If this tea is too strong for your tastes, you can add a little water before serving or just serve over ice and the ice will slowly dilute the tea 🙂

this looks quite delightful! I drink mostly water or hot teas as well but I really do like a nice cold glass of sweet iced tea in the summer 🙂

This looks like the perfect late summer drink. Iced tea is one of those things I never make, but that I LOVE. (I drank a lot of Snapple back in the day, lol!) I will definitely try this before the hot weather disappears for good.
