These air fryer carrot fries are low in fat content, are quick and easy to make, and have a caramelized crunch on the outside and a sweet tender center. They’re a naturally vegan and dairy-free side dish that complements your favorite family dinners.

These aren’t your ordinary fries, they’re air fryer carrot fries and they’re terrific. You won’t believe how incredibly quick and easy it is to make these delicious carrot treats.

hand picking up air fryer carrot friesIf you love the taste of slow-roasted carrots, you’re going to love this carrot fries recipe: it’s so simple, has minimal added fats (in case you’re watching your calories – they use olive oil so it’s good fat!), preserves vital nutrients, and retains the vibrant color and sweet flavor of the carrots.

Air-fried foods have a lower fat content compared to deep frying, and in most cases, takes less time than in a conventional oven. Roasting carrots at high heat intensifies the flavor and brings out the carrot’s natural sweetness.

These air fryer carrots make a perfect side dish any time of year, but I prefer pairing carrots with my holiday meals, and Easter is just around the corner.

Super simple ingredients:

  • 4 large carrots
  • Olive oil or olive oil spray
  • Garlic powder
  • Salt
  • Chopped parsley (optional)

How to cook air fryer carrot fries

In 5 easy steps and 20 minutes, you can chow down on these amazing carrot fries.

  1. Peel and cut carrots into matchsticks. If you just wash and leave on the peel, the carrots might be slightly bitter. Be sure to cut an even size so that the fries cook evenly at the same speed.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine all ingredients except the parsley and stir until the carrots are well coated, but not dripping in oil.
  3. Put the carrots in the basket of the air fryer, shake to get an even layer, and cook at 400 °F (205 °C) for 15-20 minutes, stirring after 8 minutes, and cook until golden.
  4. Remove and sprinkle with chopped parsley, if desired, and serve immediately.

That’s it!

The air fryer makes these carrots colorful and crunchy delicious.

Tip! These carrot fries are best if eaten immediately, but they can be refrigerated for up to 4 days and reheated in the air fryer.

All air fryers work a little differently, so the cooking time may vary. I recommend watching the carrots closely your first time to gauge how long it takes to cook these carrots perfectly in your machine.

The more you fill your air fryer, the less caramelization you will get, so if you’re cooking for a crowd, you might want to do a couple of batches.

When tossing the carrots in olive oil, the carrots should be well-coated but not dripping in oil, and if you have an oil sprayer, it’s best to coat them lightly and evenly.

Are carrots healthy?

Of course, you know the answer, and carrots aren’t only good for your eyes, but they are also great for antioxidant nutrients like vitamin C and beta-carotene. These antioxidant nutrients are believed to be good for your heart and inhibit the growth of some cancer cells.

Carrots are an excellent source of vitamin A, vitamin K, fiber, potassium and vitamin B6. Plus, they’re a weight-loss-friendly food with only 25 calories per carrot and linked to lower cholesterol and improved eye health.

Air fryer carrot fries are a perfect quick side dish for any meal (as are these Sheet Pan Potatoes). It’s a healthy alternative to carbs and tastes nice and sweet. Carrots are easily available, affordable, and easy to change the flavor profile with different seasonings when you’re feeling a little daring.

I LOVE the idea of air frying carrots and serving them as fries! I’m always trying to find new ways to get my toddler to eat her veggies and this might just do the trick. And roasted carrots are my favourite, so it’s a win-win!
